Al Azhar 55 Gets Ready for Checkpoint
Tuesday November 2nd 2021Cambridge Primary Checkpoint is designed to assess learners at the end of Cambridge Primary program. It is available in English, English as a second Language, Mathematics, Science and Global Perspectives. However, in fact, the three common subject tests to take are English (or English as a Second Langauge), Mathematics and Science.
As a school that uses Cambridge International Curriculum, Al Azhar 55 students need to take the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint before they graduate. The School’s first batch students will take the tests this year. They are currently in grade 5, however by the time the assessment is administered, i.e. in October 2021, they will be in the first semester of grade 6.
Since the second semester of grade 5, the students have started to study to figure out the types of questions that usually appear in the tests. They have a Checkpoint Intensive Program (CPIP) to attend to support their preparation for taking the tests. Since classes are still conducted online, CPIP is scheduled before the first session and after the second session.
CPIP focuses on the 3 commonly-taken subject tests, i.e. Mathematics, Science and English. At the beginning of term 4, the CPIP teaching team distributed a handout to each student for practice. The handout contains questions and materials which were carefully selected from the tests’ past papers. Students are instructed to work on the questions in the handout independently, then in the CPIP, they discuss the answers and concepts with the teachers for their better understanding.
These students will finish having the CPIP in October this year. Hopefully, the result of their tests will be as good as expected.
