Independence Day
Wednesday August 19th 2026Independence Day at SD Islam Al Azhar 55 Yogyakarta was more than a celebration. It became a meaningful space where students experienced the spirit of independence through joy, togetherness, and a deeper appreciation of their identity as Indonesians.

Together, the students walked around the school, accompanied by the teachers’ drum band and the powerful sound of “Hari Merdeka” More than a simple walk, this moment brought the school community together to feel the spirit of independence; to remember the struggles of the past and celebrate the freedom we experience today.
Every competition offered a valuable lesson. Students learned to celebrate success with humility and accept defeat with grace; building resilience, sportsmanship, and respect through experiences that cannot always be taught inside a classroom.
The celebration continued beyond the competitions through traditional game workshops. Students were invited not only to play, but also to discover the stories, cultural values, and processes behind the games that have been passed down through generations.
“Rooted in Culture, Rising with Independence” reflects the heart of this celebration. We hope our students grow into a generation that confidently steps toward the future while remaining deeply connected to their culture, values, and identity; ready to rise, explore the world, and carry their Indonesian heritage with pride.
