Amy Brueck, A Native English Speaking Teacher from The United States
Saturday October 30th 2021Amy Brueck is a new native English speaking teacher from the United States. She joins Al Azhar 55 to teach Cambridge subjects-English and Science for grades 3-5. With over ten years of experience as an English teacher, Amy brings her own teaching strategies, yet she always strives to continue learning new ones.
After graduating from a university in New York, Amy moved to Spain and became an English teacher at a middle school there. Learning a different language and culture inspired her deeply. Upon returning home to the U.S., she decided to pursue a Masters degree in Education, with the goal of teaching English to students who had moved to the U.S. from other countries.
During her early teaching experiences in the city of Philadelphia, Amy met many families who had moved to the U.S. from Indonesia. She soon became interested in Indonesian language and culture, so she started working as a volunteer at the Dompet Dhuafa branch in the United States. As a result of her work with Dompet Dhuafa, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture invited Amy to participate in a trip to Indonesia in 2016, where she visited the Istana for the Independence Day celebration. She enjoyed the experience so much that she decided to apply for work as a teacher in Indonesia.
After moving to Indonesia in 2017, Amy has had great experiences of teaching, making friends, and learning about the unique culture in Yogyakarta. She now lives in Yogyakarta with her Indonesian husband and their 2 year old daughter. She loves hiking, playing violin, and reading in her spare time.
