Recently, there has been discussions and debates regarding the new policy of Ms. Iyut, the principle of Al Azhar 55. She announced that she would allow casual outfits for 6th graders. Would it be a good change? These days, there are many countries around the globe that do not have special uniforms for the students to wear. However, the foundation thinks it is a dangerous move because it will impact the student’s attitude such as discipline.
Most of the students’ arguments are in favor of the change, they say it is their right to wear what they want. It is a part of their freedom, and it would train them for how to be a good citizen in a free society. Furthermore, there would still be a limit of wearing the clothes, as long as it closes their aurat; parts of bodies that need to be covered. Therefore, students would learn how to express themselves in an appropriate way.
On the contrary, some Asram Foundation officials are reluctant to grant the policy a permission. Their main argument is that students would not have a special rule of what and how to wear a specific uniform/clothes, therefore, it would be bad for the discipline of the students. Instead of wearing a free uniform, they could buy a new uniform from school.
For these reasons, allowing students to wear casual clothes would be a good move to democratize the school system. However, the school still needs to regulate how their clothes must be worn.
