Reading holds a significant place in Islam, as seen in the first revelation of the Qur’an, “Iqra” (Read). This emphasizes that seeking knowledge is a lifelong duty. In school, reading is the key to academic success. It helps students grow their vocabulary, improve concentration, and build good character (akhlaq).
In today’s fast-paced world, building a reading habit can be challenging. However, Al Azhar 55 Islamic Primary School fosters a love for books through our Library Visit program. Our library is more than just a room full of books; it is a center of discovery. By providing fiction, non-fiction, and magazines, we give students the freedom to explore topics they truly enjoy. During these visits, students are encouraged to borrow books regularly, which helps turn reading into a consistent habit. This practice also teaches responsibility and discipline while reducing screen me in favor of more meaningful activities.
Teachers and parents play a vital role in this journey. While teachers guide students during library sessions, parental support at home strengthens these efforts. Reading is a lifelong journey, and starting early helps shape students into knowledgeable and morally grounded individuals. By encouraging children to borrow and read books, we are developing a genera on that excels academically and follows Islamic values in their pursuit of knowledge. Through these visits, we ensure that our students grow to be bright, disciplined, and curious learners.
