Entrepreneurship Fest
Saturday October 30th 2021A Medium to Instill Entrepreneurial Skills and Philanthropism
Alhamdulillah, this year grade 3 students of Al Azhar 55 Islamic Primary School completed the 2021 Entrepreneur Fest very successfully. Entrepreneur Fest was the end-of-term 3 activity which integrated the learning of Science (making a business plan), Math (calculating money), Civic Education (Pancasila real-life implementation), Islamic Studies (shodaqoh) and IT (making stickers and promotional media).
In Science, students learned to create a business plan that includes production, costs-calculating and marketing. The products they sold were jam sandwiches, juice, chocoballs, and hand sanitizers. They practiced making each product in class guided by Science teacher. Water spinach (kangkung) was actually on the product list. However, as it did not grow well, it was struck off from the list. They then determined the products’ prices based on the start-up costs and profit they wanted to gain. They were very enthusiastic with this kind of hands-on learning.
In IT (Information Technology), students used Google slide application to make product labels, menu galleries and brochures. They stuck the label on the product packaging during the Entrepreneur Fest. As for the brochures and menu galleries, they created for their respective stores. They really enjoyed creating their works.
A few days before the Entrepreneur Fest taking place, student representatives, whom we called the marketing team, promoted the event to students of other classes by joining their zoom meetings. After promoting, they received orders that were listed by each class’ homeroom teacher(s). Right after that, they made the products at home with the help of their family members, according to the number of orders recorded. Then, on the D-day, they dropped off the products at school while taking their term 4 learning supplies with a drive-thru. Buyers-all parents and students who ordered, came and took their orders in the same way so as not to create a crowd. We used online payment applications to make them easy to pay, but we accepted cash as well.
We were glad that all products were sold out. We were even more glad that the money and profit we gained would be donated for charity (shodaqoh and infaq Masjid). This is one of our Pancasila and Islamic Studies implementations in real life. Thanks to all students, parents and teachers for the great team work. Entrepreneurship and philanthropism are instilled regardless of the covid-19 pandemic. We did it!
