Curriculum Day
Friday August 5th 2022Deepening Learning and Developing Teacher’s Collaboration
“Each stage of a student’s education is guided by a curriculum, so designing it appropriately and effectively is vital” -Henry Sauntson
The ultimate goals of curriculum design are to deepen learning and support students in gaining important core competencies such as critical and creative thinking, skillful communication, and demonstrating care for self and others. Al Azhar 55 Islamic Primary School Yogyakarta is committed to achieving these goals and giving students the best learning experience. To start a new term, all teachers collaborate to design the curriculum for one term. The curriculum establishes the foundation of what students are expected to know, do and understand through their educational experiences. Teachers apply learning standards to engage students in flexible and relevant learning experiences that encourage them to pursue their passions while building a sense of personal identity and structure appropriate levels of challenge.
The product of curriculum day is “Termly Plan”. It becomes teachers’ guide to carrying out learning activities in class and creating weekly plans for students’ learning guidance.
After designing termly plans, teachers present them so that they can get feedback from fellow teachers. During this pandemic, we are still committed to giving the students experience of learning so that teachers have to determine what items (worksheets, experiment materials, craft materials, and other items to support hands-on learning) should be distributed to the students for one term learning process. This is another highlight of the curriculum day.
Curriculum Day serves both teachers and students. Teachers can develop their collaborative, innovative, and communicative skills while students can get the advantage of the products, i.e. having structured and meaningful learning.
We realize that the process of designing curriculum is changing, becoming more complex, and incorporating new technologies and strategies. Therefore, we are committed to carrying out this agenda every term to create proper and effective lesson planning.
